Lebanese children with team members
paXan

"paXan"—the name is derived from pax (Latin: peace) and "Pack's an!" (German for "Go do it!" or "Get active!"). Getting active: that's what 10–20 young adults (18–30 years) from churches all over Germany do regularly. The paXan teams usually travel to a location abroad or in Germany for one to two weeks, do a project, offer special programs for kids, have a lot of fun, face culinary (and other) adventures, and generally "make an experience". But it's not just about getting a job done where it's needed, it's also about encouraging people and offering hope and peace through this ministry.

Lebanese girl“For me it was the first time to travel to that part of the world. But to be quite honest, I was never worried about that. From the first moment my feet touched the ground in Beirut I felt welcome. It was so cool to be with the kids. It was so great to see what we did without doing anything. Just through our presence the kids and youth were happy. Of course with my German mentality I was focused on redecorating and renovating the building. I wanted to leave something for the guys there, a nice classroom they can be happy about, or something like that. But soon I felt that this trip was about much more than just painting walls and looking after children.” —Christian, paXan team 2010

paXan is a joint project of NYI Germany and Helping Hands e.V.
